Obamacare NOW!!!!
Nancy Pelosi stated in March 2010 “But we have to pass the [health care] bill so that you can find out what’s in it....” Well, I think it’s time to take it one step further, and say “Lets fully implement ALL provisions of the Affordable Care Act NOW, so we can feel its full effects”. That means no delays, no deferments for big business, no deferment for the individual mandate to sign up for Obamacare, and full implementation of all of the fees and fines contained in the law.
I subscribe to the theory that if you suspect a Federal law is bad, you need to implement and enforce all of its provisions, to include all of the painful ones. This seems to be the only way Americans take notice that the government has inflicted pain into their daily lives. The last best example of this would when President Nixon signed an Executive Order in 1973 mandating a national 55 MPH speed limit. The idea was we would all get better gas mileage and end America’s dependence on foreign oil – it was sort of a gut check response to the OPEC oil embargo. (If you don’t remember what that was, go Google it). To ‘enforce’ this Federal mandate on the states, (who regulate their state’s speed limit) the ‘painful’ provision was unless the state complied, and made their maximum speed limit 55 MPH, they would be denied any Federal money to help maintain and build highways. When President Carter came into office, in an August 1977 speech, he endorsed the ‘greater good’ of better MPG, pointing out there were fewer traffic fatalities, and on average, oil consumption had fallen. He re-emphasized the need for states to enforce the national speed limit.
But as far as the American people supporting the law with all of its good intentions, it didn’t turn out that way. Seems when State Troopers starting handing out speeding tickets faster than the government prints money, the backlash came fast and furious. The average American rebelled and let their elected officials how they felt about driving at a snail’s pace. State legislatures begin accepting the pain of not receiving Federal funds for their highways, as they knew the pain they would experience at the ballot box next election day would be much greater. America rallied around Sammy Hagar’s popular song of the day “I can’t drive Fifty Five!”, and as slow as 55 MPH, the federal mandate eventually went away.
Fast forward to 2013 -- If Obamacare is fully implanted now, the sooner the average American will ‘feel the pain’ of the Socialization of health care – and the backlash will begin from the “hard working” Americans liberals love to champion. And just one more thing -- where’s Sammy Hagar when you need him?
