The Worst Job in the World

I always get those emails from time to time with pictures of the worst jobs in the world. Usually, they involve an elephant, a very large pile of fecal matter and some poor slob with a shovel. But, these days, with the White House under fire for numerous scandals, the worst job in the world has to be the White House Press Secretary. And the poor slob with that job is Jay Carney. You gotta feel for this guy. Obama just lets him go out there every day and get hammered by the press. At least Nixon had the decency to tell his press secretary what lies to tell. It’s really a shame that John Ehrilchman and Bob Haldeman aren't still alive, as they could provide Mr. Carney some pristine advice – and that is, when you know your boss is covering up stuff, resign and save yourself from being fired and disgraced. At a minimum, you wouldn't have to serve time in a resort prison in the panhandle of Florida. But the old NCO has to say he respects Jay Carney. Even though he works for a fool, he is loyal. I just hope he doesn't think there will be a reward when he leaves the job. Perhaps he can get a spot on Dancing with the Stars – If he’s learned anything from being Obama’s Press Sec, it’s how to dance.

Somewhere, Dick Nixon is Smiling.....

You just can’t make this stuff up. The Obama Administration is disintegrating under the weight of numerous scandals. And there seems to be a new scandal every day. In addition, it appears our country is being led by a gaggle of fools. No one person seems to be in charge. And our President's defense to these scandals is they are due to some isolated ‘rouge’ personnel, and that he knew nothing about their illegal, or immoral, or unethical activities. However, we are to trust him when he says he will investigate and get to the bottom of it -- and hold those persons accountable. --- Sure, I believe that. I can only wonder what Richard Nixon would have to say about Obama’s troubles. Probably that finally, he is off the hook, and America will, in his own words, “no longer have Dick Nixon to kick around anymore.” Some people are comparing the Obama scandals to Watergate. My fear, for our country, is that Obamagate will do much more damage to America. But one thing I’m sure of, is that somewhere, Dick Nixon has a smile on his face.

Is The Liberal Party Over?

Since the election of Barack Obama in 2008, liberals have had carte blanche to say anything, no matter how ridiculous or offensive, to defend and protect their chosen one – and with little backlash or criticism from main street America. But those days just might be coming to an end. Enter ultra-liberal Lizz Winstead, writer and co-creator of “The Daily Show”. Ms. Winstead posted on her Twitter account the Tornados that hit Oklahoma yesterday were clearly targeting Conservatives. More precisely, “This tornado is in Oklahoma, so clearly it has been ordered to only target conservatives”. And continued her line of insensitive liberal humor with “How long has Obama known about this Tornado?” and “Tornado just bumped me from MSNBC” ‘signed Benghazi’. Like any Obama loyalist, I’m sure she believed no one would object to her sick humor which was obviously written to make light of those asking pointed questions about the IRS scandal encompassing the White House. But this time was different. Not long after the post hit her Twitter account, the backlash started rolling in – and it kept rolling in. I guess Ms. Winstead realized she just may have gone too far and started apologizing. It got so bad, conservative talk show personality Glenn Beck came to her rescue and tweeted asking folks to cut Ms. Winstead some slack – that she realized what she did was in bad taste. --- But The Old NCO sees a turning of the tide with this incident. Perhaps the Obama coronation party is over and main street America has had enough of out of control liberal propaganda. And, I hope Ms. Winstead learned something from this incident. But, you can’t really blame her for her actions, after all, she was just being, well, a Liberal.

The "Sergeant Schultz" Defense

In regards to all of the Obama Administration scandals, The Old NCO thinks there may have been a memo from the White House sent to everyone on the Obama team. The memo’s purpose would be to provide guidance for anyone faced answering questions about the gaggle of scandals surrounding the Administration. If such a memo were to exist, it probably would have went something like this: --- For anyone who receives a Congressional Subpoena --- “Should you have to appear before any Congressional investigate committees, your answer to any questions regarding Benghazi, the IRS targeting conservatives, or the Department of Justice seizing the phone records of the Associated Press, your answer will be “I Know Nothing”. You can say this in various ways, but at the end of the day, your reply had better be you just don’t know anything about anything. If you need any help in preparing for your “I know nothing” performance, just review my professionals at this art who have already appeared before congress, like Hillary Clinton, Eric Holder, and Steven Miller. And if you feel you need special preparation assistance, I can set you up with some individual one on one training with the Champion of knowing absolutely nothing, Jay Carney. I want to stress there is no floor to the depths of how stupid or uninformed we appear.” While the The Old NCO can’t confirm any kind of memo was sent to the Obama faithful from the Oval Office, the repetition of “I know nothing” by Obama’s surrogates makes it very suspicious. Sergeant Schultz would be proud. The sad thing is, Sergeant Schultz said it to be funny. What’s the Obama Administration’s motive?

The Obama Doctrine

President Obama has had a bad week – or should I say several bad weeks. And while The Old NCO isn't shedding any tears over his scandal ridden administration, it got me to thinking of why he made the decisions he made – the decisions which have gotten him into the hot water he’s in today. The only explanation I came up with is something I call the Obama Doctrine. So what is the Obama Doctrine? Basically, it’s an overriding doctrine our President uses when he makes any decision. And the doctrine only has one simple rule – that is in all things, Politics comes first, and America comes second. Sound crazy? Well then, let me provide some examples. --- Benghazi. Just weeks before the 2012 Presidential election, when you've been out on the campaign trail beating your chest about how you have “Al Qaeda on the run”, you’re informed one of their surrogate terrorist groups is attacking a diplomatic outpost in Libya and American lives are in danger. What do you do? If you put America first, you send in the Calvary (Marines), damn the fallout, damn the election, you live the American military creed that you “leave no man behind”. Basically, you kick ass and take names. However, if you believe in the Obama Doctrine, you put politics first, and if you have Al Qaeda on the run, you deny there were any terrorist, and you lie to the American public on five Sunday morning talk shows with a cover story that deflects blame for the attack on a You Tube video – just to keep your friends in the press placated until you get past the election. And after you win re-election, you figure since the press is in your pocket, they’ll help you sweep the deaths of four good Americans you left to die in Benghazi under the rug. --- IRS Targets Conservatives. The story hits the news that the IRS targeted conservative groups applying for tax exempt status by screening applications for key words like Tea Party or any words or phrases that would reflect the organization had conservative leanings – while almost fast tracking applications from liberal groups. What do you do? If you put America first, you would have stopped this practice and fired the person who was in charge of the division considering tax exempt status along with asking the DOJ to investigate for any criminal wrong doing –and have done it when your administration first knew about the practice – which is now being reported as sometime mid-2012, just in advance of the Presidential election. However, if you believe in the Obama Doctrine, you put politics first. It’s to your benefit to allow the IRS to harass and unjustly treat conservative groups so you ignore the practice as long as you can – and hopefully the story won’t break until after the election. And when you can’t ignore it, or deny knowing about it any longer, you go into outrage mode. You publicly condemn what happened, and say you’ll get to the bottom of it. You find a scapegoat and ask them for a meaningless resignation. In this case, that would be the current ‘acting’ IRS chief, Steven Miller – regardless if in fact he was leaving the position in two weeks followed by a retirement two months later. You seize upon your ‘firing’ as a big deal – make big speeches about how you took control and send all of your surrogates out on the talk shows to help show your condemnation of the IRS. And as for the person who was actually in charge of the folks harassing conservative Americans, you promote them to the new position created under your massive healthcare plan where they can continue to harass conservative Americans about their healthcare coverage. --- Spy on the Associated Press. If you put America first, you fire Eric Holder. On his watch, the most egregious of sins was conducted by his Department – the Obama Administration using its power to spy on the press. You clean house, have the offenders arrested, and you apologize to the American public. However, if you believe in the Obama Doctrine, you put politics first. You send your Attorney General to Congress to explain what happened -- only to have him claim ignorance of any wrong doing. He just didn't know it was going on. He was out at Starbucks getting a latte while some rouge underlings in the DOJ were breaking the law. All the while, you scream outrage about the incident so you too can appear to be on the right side of the issue. There are more examples, but if you review the decisions this President has made, it’s very apparent he does not put America first. His legacy will be one of “me, me, me”.

Guns - Are They The Real Problem?

This morning on CNN’s State of the Union, Candy Crowley interviewed Senator Marco Rubio who provided, which the old NCO thinks, is the most intelligent statement about the Gun Control controversy currently being debated by our representatives in Congress. That statement was that we have a violence problem in this country, not a gun control problem. Guns are only the vehicle used to carry out violence. The legislation being debated in Washington assumes that guns commit criminal acts, not the people behind the guns. Liberals love to ride a wave of emotion when a horrific incident like what happened at Sandy Hook Elementary school takes place and us it to advance their radical liberal agenda on Gun Control. But Senator Rubio is spot on when he says the issue is violence in our society and not guns. Many things can take the lives of innocent people; bombs, poison, knives, even physical attacks, but the common denominator here is violence. What’s next from liberals – a national registry on kitchen knives? Perhaps those on the liberal side of the fence need to look in the mirror and ask themselves why is there an increase in these violent incidents? Could it be the watering down of family values by the left? The liberalization of laws, and always, always, blaming the violent acts of criminals on ‘society’ and not enforcing or appreciating the basic rule that used to be the foundation of American values – which is each individual taking responsibility for one’s acts.

Tax The Rich

I was watching the news program ‘Fareed Zakaira GPS’ on CNN this morning. There was a story about Gerard Depardieu’s decision to claim Russian citizenship to avoid France’s new 75% tax rate on millionaires. Russia, by the way has a 13% flat tax. Now, I would not cherish the thought of living in Russia the required 6 months out of the year to maintain my citizenship eligibility, but the thought of paying a government who taxes me to death is even less attractive. While the CNN report stated Depardieu’s story was getting much attention, the numbers don’t support the notion that when a government taxes the rich, the rich pack of their stuff and move to more tax friendly locations. To some degree, that may be true, as corporations are bound by brick and mortar investments, and other physical restrictions that would be more costly to move than paying the higher tax. However, those not bound by costly restrictions will move. So the CNN story tended to support the idea that if the Obama administration continues to tax the rich, they will just pay more in tax. But that’s not true. CNN failed to look forward into the future. Consider upstart companies looking for somewhere to begin their business? Why would they build in New Jersey with a 9% corporate tax rate when Texas has 0%? Or why would they build in the United States when many countries offer friendlier tax environments? Bottom line, the rich will do what’s best for their pocketbooks. And while it may be ‘patriotic’ to pay taxes, according to the Obama faithful, that does not mean you should bend over so they can take advantage of you.
